THE SERVANT GENERAL
Wonders accompanied the conception and birth of Jesus. A
virgin is with child. An angel appears to Joseph and to
Mary. A king is born in a stable. This greatest of news
is announced to lowly shepherds. Heaven bursts out in praise.
Kings pay homage to a child in a manger. Life is followed
by death in the massacre of the infants.
A Savior who is Messiah and Lord has been born!
It was a difficult time for all, but faith won the day.
Mary was pregnant even without having lived with Joseph,
but she believed in the angel Gabriel. Joseph was greatly
troubled, thinking of divorcing Mary quietly, but he believed
in the angel. The magi from the east had to search for the
child, but they believed the star would guide them. The
shepherds were struck with great fear, but they believed
in the angel.
We look at all these wonders, and we BE.LI.EV.E! Wonders
brought us to faith in Jesus. Such faith works wonders.
The heavenly host had praised God, saying: “Glory
to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom
his favor rests.” The Prince of Peace had already
come, and had already won for us our salvation. But still,
there is no peace on earth. In fact, we are in times when
strife, division and dissension are even more intense.
What makes for peace? It is for those on whom God’s
favor rests. It is for those who give glory to God. We need
to merit God’s favor by living our lives in and for
Him. We need to recognize God as the One who holds our lives
in His hands, and thus give Him the praise and glory that
He deserves. In order to find peace on earth, we need to
look to God in the heavens.
But God has already come down from heaven to earth. Thus
we look to Jesus, our Savior and Lord, who is born to us
The angel had said to the shepherds: “Do not be afraid;
for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that
will be for all the people.” The coming of Jesus is
good news. Amidst the gloom and doom in the world, his coming
brings us great joy. This good news, this gospel, is not
just for us, but for all the people, to be proclaimed to
the ends of the earth. This is our life and our work. We
are to boldly go forth and not be afraid.
are to BE.LI.EV.E! We are to be a friend of Jesus, we are
to live the way of Jesus, and we are to evangelize in the
name of Jesus. This is so that many more will meet Christ,
live Christ, and share Christ. This is the true meaning
of Christmas. This is the reason for joy in this season.
My profound gratitude to all you my brethren who shared
the good news of Jesus to others. Let us all truly rejoice,
for a Savior has been born.
Christmas to you all.
