THE SERVANT GENERAL
NO ONE IN NEED
JUSTICE TO THE OPPRESSED POOR
Today’s psalm: Psalm 9:8-13
Lord “is he who judges the world with justice”
(v.9a). Justice is giving to everyone what is his due. To
the poor is due an equitable share of the world’s goods,
which are all provided by God for His people. Who then are
Those who fail to share with those who have much less in
who deprive the poor of even the little that they can get.
who support oppressive structures in society that affect
the poor the most.
who are greedy and try to get more and more to the detriment
of the weak and powerless.
who take advantage of the poor to further their personal
fact, they are oppressors. What are the oppressed poor to
do? They are to trust in God.
poor must know that “the Lord is a stronghold for
the oppressed.” (v.10a). Jesus, who himself was poor
and oppressed, identifies with them and is committed to
poor who trust in God must aver, “you never forsake
those who seek you, Lord.” (v.11b). God is ever mindful
of the poor, always having them in His heart.
poor, in their suffering and forsaken situation, must have
faith that the Lord “does not forget the cry of the
afflicted.” (v.13b). God listens to the cry of His
beloved poor, and will answer.

Thus we have this responsibility. Pope Francis loves the poor.
The Church has a preferential option for the poor. We have
the same Core Value and have established the No One in Need
us do what is just and right and true.
