THE SERVANT GENERAL
ON EVANGELIZATION AND MISSION
COMMISSIONED TO PREACH THE GOSPEL – 14
May 16-17, 2019
Today’s reading: Acts 13:13-33
We have been reading about Peter preaching the gospelon
the day of Pentecost, at Solomon’s Portico, twice before
the Sanhedrin, to Cornelius and his household. Now it is Paul’s
turn. This was at the synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia.
again we see the kerygma at work. Our own CLS is a proclamation
of the gospel, with its basic elements.
1: Jesus the Messiah. “God, according to his
promise, has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus.”
2: Called to Witness.“These are now his witnesses
before the people.” (v.31b).
Session 3: Repentance and Faith. “John heralded
his coming by proclaiming a baptism of repentance to all
the people of Israel” (v.24).
The above is the basic kerygma. This preaching of the gospel
is crucial, for it is through this that “to us this
word of salvation has been sent.” (v.26b). Then, to
complete God’s work of salvation in people, we add three
more sessions which are needed to help a CLS participant to
meet Christ, to live Christ, and to share Christ.
To meet Christ is to know him and enter into an intimate
relationship with him.
To live Christ is to walk the path of holiness and authentic
To share Christ is to participate in the work of evangelization
and mission. “We ourselves are proclaiming this
good news to you that what God promised our ancestors
he has brought to fulfillment for us, their children,
by raising up Jesus” (v.32-33).
We in CFC-FFL have been called to preach the gospel of salvation
in Jesus. This work of evangelization is the most important
work of the Church, which is missionary. All our brethren
should strive to be an army of holy warriors, fanning out
throughout the world to proclaim Christ our Savior and Lord.
“My brothers, if one of you has a word of exhortation
for the people, please speak.” (v.15b).
