THE SERVANT GENERAL
ON EVANGELIZATION AND MISSION
COMMISSIONED TO PREACH THE GOSPEL – 17
June 2, 2019
Jesus himself told his disciples the basic principles of the
kerygma. These are reflected in our own CLS, with the following
Session #1: Jesus the Messiah. “Thus it is written
that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on
the third day” (Lk 24:46).
#2: Called to Witness. “You are witnesses of these
things.” (Lk 24:48).
#3: Repentance and Faith. “and that repentance, for
the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to
all the nations” (Lk 24:47).
#4: The Gift of the Holy Spirit. "And behold I am sending
the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city
until you are clothed with power from on high.” (Lk
24:49). “…. in a few days you will be baptized
with the holy Spirit.” (Acts 1:5b).
Then Jesus ascended to heaven. “As he blessed them he
parted from them and was taken up to heaven.” (Lk 24:51).
Now, having been commissioned by Jesus and given empowerment
of the Holy Spirit, it is our turn to preach the gospel. “But
you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you,
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea
and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8).
We are to do worldwide evangelization.
is no time to lose, as the task is urgent, especially during
these dark times in the world. We can hear the angels of God
speak to us as they did to the disciples. “Men of Galilee,
why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus
who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in
the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.”
(Acts 1:11). Jesus will return. In the meantime, we proclaim
his salvation to the world.
