THE SERVANT GENERAL
ON EVANGELIZATION AND MISSION
HARVEST THANKS AND PETITION
January 1, 2018
Today’s psalm: Psalm 67:2-8
We look back on the past year and count our blessings. Despite
challenges, trials and suffering, we indeed have been blessed.
For an evangelistic and missionary community, our blessings
lie in the harvest that we are able to bring in for the Lord.
We exist for Christ (we are Couples for Christ) and we continue
with his work of salvation.
Our work is about
rapid, massive and worldwide evangelization. Our goal? The
build God’s Kingdom on earth and to establish the kingship
of Jesus over all the nations. “May the peoples praise
you, God, may all the peoples praise you!” (v.4). This
is the way for God’s intent for the life of the world
to happen. This is the way to peace, prosperity and exultant
joy over the earth. “May the nations be glad and rejoice;
for you judge the peoples with fairness, you guide the nations
upon the earth.” (v.5).
So this new year
we continue to look to God’s blessings and grace upon
us. “May God be gracious to us and bless us; may his
face shine upon us.” (v.2). This is not just about the
goodness God wants for His beloved people, but about what
we are able to accomplish for Him. We are to proclaim Jesus,
for “so shall your way be known upon the earth”
(v.3a). We as holy warriors will engage the enemy and bring
forth “your victory among all the nations.” (v.3b).
In over 36 years
we have done evangelization and mission, experiencing the
blessing of God as He enabled us to bring in a rich harvest.
“The earth has yielded its harvest; God, our God, blesses
us.” (v.7). But there is so much more work to be done.
The harvest is much richer but the challenge of a lack of
laborers still persists. And so this new year, we again look
to God’s hand upon us, to enable us to bring in an even
greater harvest for His Kingdom. We persist in our worldwide
mission. “May God bless us still; that the ends of the
earth may revere him.” (v.8).
Onward, holy warriors!
All for the glory of God. “May the peoples praise you,
God; may all the peoples praise you!” (v.6).
