ON POPE FRANCIS
(Part 51)

PRIESTS AND EVANGELIZATION

October 4, 2014

Pope Francis says that the mission of priests is evangelization. But with so many Catholics to re-evangelize, and with the parish priest very busy with so many tasks, how can he respond to this fundamental calling? This is where LCSC comes is, as a lay response to the call to the New Evangelization. We provide the methodology by which parishes themselves can undertake truly massive evangelization, with the potential to reach all lapsed Catholics with the gospel message. The task of the parish priest then becomes simpler, and that is to support LCSC, but with his parish leaders and workers doing the actual work.

Priests' top task is evangelization, Pope tells Congregation for Clergy

Catholic World News - October 03, 2014

Priests should be aware that “it is their lives that evangelize, rather than their works,” Pope Francis said in an October 3 address to the members of the Congregation for the Clergy.

“Every vocation is for the mission, and the mission of ordained ministers is evangelization,” the Pope said. He remarked that a priest is “the administrator of a gift that God has entrusted to him for the good of all the people.”

At the same time, the Pope continued, the priesthood is a gift to the Church, and “all the Christian community is the custodian of the treasure of these vocations.” So priestsalong with all the faithfulshould pray for and nurture vocations.
A priest should recall Christ’s call to his disciples to “follow me,” the Pope said. “It is a task that is never completed, because priests never stop being Jesus' disciples; they never stop following Him.”
