THE SERVANT GENERAL
ON SERVANT LEADERSHIP
THE GOOD SHEPHERD - 3
Today’s gospel: John 10:22-30
Jesus came to save all, but not all will be saved, if they
refuse to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord and become one of
his sheep in his sheepfold (that is, in the Church). Those
who believe (still remember BE.LI.EV.E!?) will be saved. Those
who do not believe will not be saved. “But you do not
believe, because you are not among my sheep.” (v.26).
are those who are counted among Jesus’ sheep? “My
sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
(v.27). Jesus’ sheep are those who have met him and
who know him, and thus can recognize his voice. They are those
who live his way of life and they follow him as disciples.
Catholics today are in the Church but are not in Jesus’
sheepfold, because they do not truly know him nor follow him.
They are nominal in their faith. Our work of evangelization
is intended for nominal and lapsed Catholics to meet Christ,
to live Christ and to share Christ. The very first LCS talk
(5-session version) is “Jesus the Messiah.” Jesus
needs to be proclaimed anew, because many Catholics are like
the Jews, who “gathered around him and said to him,
‘How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you
are the Messiah, tell us plainly.’” (v.24).
is our task as evangelizers to get lapsed Catholics to meet
Jesus. It is our task as servant leaders to get them to know
Jesus as the Messiah and so live his way of life.
