SYNODOS
(Part 115)

COMMUNION FOR DIVORCED AND REMARRIED - 17

November 21, 2015

Long before all this, way back in 1999, we in CFC already responded to the situation of those in irregular unions for those who were in CFC or who wanted to join CFC. I wrote up and we implemented Jacob’s Well, our ministry for those in irregular unions.

We were pastorally sensitive to their situation and so provided them everything that was provided for regular CFC couples (household, formation, assemblies, service, etc). However, as they were in a situation of objective wrongdoing (and so could not go to Communion), we could not just incorporate them into CFC as regular CFC couples, since that would violate what we stood for (repentance for sin; indissolubility of Christian marriage), and so had to create a special situation, and that was Jacob’s Well.

That pastoral model is similar to what traditionalist prelates (as opposed to liberals and progressives) are seeing for our Church in this matter.

Leading Polish prelate affirms: no Communion for those who have remarried outside the Church

November 20, 2015

Summarizing the final report of the recent Synod of Bishops on the family, the president of the Polish Episcopal Conference said that those who have divorced and entered into a non-sacramental marriage should be treated with pastoral sensitivity and incorporated into the life of the Church but are not permitted to receive Holy Communion.

Archbishop Stanislaw Gadecki made his remarks during a November 19 lecture at the Pontifical Salesian University in Jerusalem.

The prelate said that the synod fathers called for the use of more understandable language in presenting Catholic teaching on marriage, improved pastoral care during marriage preparation and the early years of marriage, and a recognition of families as evangelizers of other families.
