THE SERVANT GENERAL
THE NEW EVANGELIZATION
THE NEW COVENANT
Today’s reading: Jeremiah 31:31-34
We are the people of the New Covenant. Christians are the
new Israel. God promised to those who would profess their
faith in Jesus: “I will be their God, and they shall
be my people.” (v.33c).
just as Israel broke the covenant and turned away from God,
Christians today have done likewise. Most Christians today
are nominal, secularized, worldly, inactive in their faith,
and even antagonistic to the faith. God had fulfilled His
part of the covenant. “I will place my law within them,
and write it upon their hearts” (v.33b). But we have
been unfaithful and have become hard-hearted.
so there is the Church’s call to the New Evangelization.
While God’s intent was that “they will no longer
teach their friends and relatives, ‘Know the Lord!’”
(v.34a), today there is a dire need for Catholics to once
again meet and know Christ. They need to enter into a deep,
intimate, personal relationship with Jesus.
is still time. There is still hope. We can still turn away
from sin and turn back to God and return to the Church. But
for this to happen, the gospel will have to be proclaimed
anew. And in a massive way, to reach all, down to the peripheries.
This is the purpose of the Live Christ, Share Christ movement.
God’s intent can come to pass. “Everyone, from
least to greatest, shall know me oracle of the Lord
for I will forgive their iniquity and no longer remember
their sin.” (v.34b).
