THE SERVANT GENERAL
THE NEW EVANGELIZATION
Today’s gospel: Matthew 21:33-43
Jesus tells us about the parable of the tenants. The landowner
is God, the vineyard is the house of Israel (now the Church,
the new Israel), the tenants are those entrusted with the
work of the Kingdom (all who profess to be Christians). “When
vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants
to obtain his produce.” (v.34). The produce is the good
works expected by God.
sent His own Son Jesus to suffer and die on the cross, and
by his death and resurrection, won for us our salvation. For
those who accept Jesus as Savior and Lord, God provides fullness
of grace and empowerment by the Holy Spirit. The fruit expected
by God is holiness of life and witness to Jesus and the gospel.
has called us to CFC-FFL, and this is a call to be saints,
martyrs and warriors. We are expected to produce fruit. Otherwise,
if we do not attain to holiness by which we can do an effective
work of evangelization, then the landlord will “lease
his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce
at the proper times.” (v.41b).
are critical times in the life of the Church and in the life
of the world. All true disciples of Jesus must live Christ
and share Christ. The salvation of Jesus must be urgently
proclaimed. We in CFC-FFL have been given a special calling,
and the privilege of doing mission in the very heart of the
Church, now especially through LCSC.
are empowered to witness. We are empowered to produce fruit.
We are empowered to harvest and present the produce to God.
We must therefore act with zeal and determination. Otherwise
the landowner will lease his vineyard to other tenants. This
is the way it is. God gives us the privilege. We need to act
decisively on it. Otherwise God will have to move on, because
He has His purposes to be accomplished.
I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you
and given to a people that will produce its fruit.”
(v.43). Let us not lose what God has already given us.
