(Part 18)

March 9, 2011

Today’s reading: 2 Corinthians 5:20-6:2

Today is Ash Wednesday, and we start the season of Lent. It is a time of repentance and restoration. It is a time to be brought back to God’s plan and intent for our lives. It is a time to turn away from our sinful ways, including our disobedience to God’s call to us, individually and as a community.

“behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Cor 6:2c)

We are for Christ and we proclaim Christ and the salvation that he has brought. We are an evangelistic and missionary community. We have been commissioned by Jesus to bring the good news of salvation to the whole world. This is the very reason for our existence. If we do not evangelize widely and massively, then we are not living up to our calling.

At the same time, it is as we live the live of community, being faithful to our covenant, and as we do the work of evangelization, that we ourselves grow in personal holiness and continue along the path to Christian perfection. Our Christian community of CFC-FFL is the environment given to us by God by which we are to continue growing in the Spirit.

But this whole God-given set-up is threatened. By sin. By infidelity. By lukewarmness. By not realizing the fullness of God’s work in and through us. God is about a mighty work in the world, and we are privileged to be a part of it. If we obey God’s call, we will be blessed tremendously. If we do not, we stand accursed.

Now we are going to face the crossroad. The blessing or the curse. Life or death. Soaring in God’s strength or wilting in the flesh.

There is still time to do what is right and pleasing to God. This time of Lent is God’s special gift to us, as we approach the crossroad, giving us the opportunity to assess where we are, and where we ought to be.

“Behold, now is a very acceptable time” (2 Cor 6:2b)

The time, if we are still not doing what is right, is NOW!

  • To repent of all our infidelities to our CFC-FFL covenant (re-read A Covenant with God).
  • To internalize the lessons of Lamentations (re-read Forty Days of Lamentations).
  • To internalize the lessons of Job (re-read Forty Days with Job).
  • For leaders to be true servant leaders (re-read Servant Leadership; strive to live out each and every bullet point through the whole book).
  • To stop robbing God and start giving what is due to Him by means of true financial stewardship (review Financial Stewardship, Parts 1 to 5).

Now is the acceptable time--to fully embrace God’s plan for us and thus our destiny (Is 49:3). Do not put off this crucial decision, as the time is short.

The crossroad beckons. Be prepared.
