THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2011
FACE-OFF WITH THE ENEMY
May 2, 2011
serve an awesome God. He is the “Sovereign Lord, maker
of heaven and earth and the sea and all that is in them”
(Acts 4:24b). As His servants, we engage in spiritual warfare
against the forces of the enemy. This is the face-off. “The
kings of the earth took their stand and the princes gathered
together against the Lord and against his anointed.”
forces of the enemy are also very powerful. In the fight for
the culture of life, these forces of the enemy include the
US government led by Obama, the European Union, elements of
the United Nations, billionaire philanthropists, international
liberal media, giant abortion providers, homosexualist groups.
These forces of the enemy seriously threaten family and life,
our Judeo-Christian faith, and our societies. They have their
diabolical agenda, and continue to plot in order to force
their agenda on the world. They seek to impose the culture
of death, and destroy every good that God has brought about.
“Kings on earth rise up and princes plot together against
the Lord and his anointed.” (Ps 2:2).
on our own we would be easily defeated. Thus we look to the
Lord’s strength. “And now, Lord, take note of
their threats, and enable your servants to speak your word
with all boldness, as you stretch forth your hand to heal,
and signs and wonders are done through the name of your holy
servant Jesus.” (Acts 5:29-30).
we look to the Lord’s strength, knowing that He is already
victorious. Though we might be greatly disturbed and even
terrified by the works of the evil one, God certainly is not.
“The one enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord derides
them.” (Ps 2:4). But God also does not take their threats
lightly. They are out to destroy His works. God in turn will
destroy them. “Then (God) speaks to them in anger, terrifies
them in wrath.” (Ps 2:5).
How do we tap on to the Lord’s strength?
we need to be profoundly connected to Him. We need to truly
be His people. We must acknowledge Him as Savior, as Lord,
as Master, as our all. We must worship Him, acknowledging
Him as King of kings, the One who is omnipotent. We must keep
ourselves connected to Him in prayer. Then we can experience
the awesome power of God that the early disciples experienced.
“As they prayed, the place where they were gathered
shook, and they were all filled with the holy Spirit and continued
to speak the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:31).
must be filled with the Holy Spirit, who emboldens us to become
true witnesses who will proclaim the good news of salvation
in Jesus to the whole world. The Holy Spirit is the breath
that renews the face of the earth. The Holy Spirit keeps us
on track along the path of holiness and righteousness. The
Holy Spirit strengthens and encourages us in the face of challenges,
persecution, oppressions, suffering and pain.
must know who or what we are called to be. We are servants
of Christ who are evangelizers and missionaries. We are soldiers
who go into the thick of the spiritual war that is raging
in the heavens and on earth. We are instruments that God wields
in order to defeat the works of the evil one. We are a people
through whom God manifests His glory.
are those who proclaim: “My God is now my strength!”
