THE SERVANT GENERAL
THEME FOR 2014
ARE WARRIORS - 2
Today’s reading: Psalm 144:1-10
We are warriors. As God’s warriors, God Himself provides
for our offense and our defense. For offense, God trains us
for war. God “trains my hands for battle, my fingers
for war” (v.1b). God provides our defense. God Himself
is “my safeguard and my fortress, my stronghold, my
deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge” (v.2a).
Together, God it is “who subdues peoples under me.”
are in spiritual war. This is God’s war, and we are
His armies. As such, we call upon heaven and its hosts to
help us. Again, our help is in offense and defense. For offense:
“Lord, incline your heavens and come down; touch the
mountains and make them smoke. Flash forth lightning and scatter
my foes; shoot your arrows and rout them.” (v.5-6).
For our defense: “Reach out your hand from on high;
deliver me from the many waters; rescue me from the hands
of foreign foes.” (v.7).
God’s warriors we are assured of victory and deliverance.
In offense: “You give victory to kings” (v.10a).
In defense: “you delivered David your servant from the
menacing sword” (v.10b).
Let the warriors march on, with a sword in their hands and
a song in their mouths. “O God, a new song I will sing
to you” (v.9a). We march with triumphant fortitude.
The war is God’s, the victory is God’s.
