THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2015
Today’s psalm: Psalm 22:26-32
“The poor will eat their fill” (v.27a). The icon
of poverty is an empty stomach. The contrary then is a full
stomach. This can happen as we build the Church of the Poor,
where no one is in need. The poor will be filled. They will
be full. They will be full-filled. They will live full. We
can help bring this about as we continue with the mission
God has given us.
is that mission? It is evangelization founded on family renewal.
The two are crucial. We don’t just proclaim the gospel
but we build strong families. We don’t just renew our
own families but we evangelize many others.
evangelization is rapid, massive and worldwide. In particular,
we look to lapsed Catholics. What is our goal? “All
the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord”
(v.28a). We work such that Catholics throughout the world
will be re-introduced to their faith and will meet Christ
anew, so that they will remember the faith of their youth
and turn back to the Lord.
within our own families, we bring in not just our children
but our children’s children. If we ensure not just the
next generation but also the generation after that, and our
own children will do the same for their children and grandchildren,
then we can be assured of continuity of vibrant faith, and
even the life and mission of our community, until the Lord
returns. We have our renewed faith in Jesus, which we pass
on and help ingrain into our children. “And I will live
for the Lord, my descendants will serve you.” (v.31).
have this vision for continuity of family renewal even before
we have children. “The generation to come will be told
of the Lord” (v.32a). And we will impart this vision
to our children even before they have their own children,
“that they may proclaim to a people yet unborn the deliverance
you have brought.” (v.32b).
