OUR THEME FOR 2015
LOOK AT JESUS, LOOK TO THE POOR - 3
Our theme this year is: Look at Jesus, look to
the poor. The prepositions at and to are
look at Jesus. We gaze at Jesus. Our body is sedentary but
our gaze is intent. Looking at Jesus leads us to look to the
poor. To look to is to act. What we see prompts us to action.
we look at Jesus, what should we see?
We see the poor with whom Jesus identifies, with those who
are the least of his brethren, whom he loves preferentially.
see what Jesus sees, the many lost sheep that need to be
sought out and brought back to the fold.
see his wounds, inflicted upon him by our sins, and we are
led to deeper repentance and the resolve to amend our lives.
see the crucified Jesus, and we are reminded that we too
are to embrace our crosses.
see the glorified Jesus, and our hearts are filled with
we look to the poor, how should we be led to act?
As Jesus ministered to the poor, so too should we.
Jesus proclaimed his mission to be that of bringing glad
tidings to the poor, so too should our work and mission
Jesus made use of the lowly and those who count for nothing,
we should be encouraged in the realization that God can
use us, even in our unworthiness.
We look at Jesus and our hearts are filled with awe, and we
are led to worship. Jesus then points us to his beloved poor,
and sends us off to be mindful of and to look to their needs.
God has provided everything needed for people to live truly
meaningful lives on earth. We allow ourselves to become God’s
instruments of grace and blessing, especially to the poor,
so that no one will be in need.
