THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2016
CONFIDENT IN GOD’S MERCY - 2
Today’s psalm: Psalm 25:4-14
God is rich in mercy. His mercy is freely bestowed on us.
But we do need to respond to the mercy of God. As we are sinners,
mercy is an invitation to repent and mend our ways, and to
grow in holiness. So we look to God and He will show us the
way we are to go. “Good and upright is the Lord, therefore
he shows sinners the way” (v.8).
should we respond to the mercy of God?
of all, we must be humble and know that we desperately need
God’s mercy. On our own we are nothing. We set aside
any human pride in our achievements, status, works. “He
guides the humble in righteousness, and teaches the humble
his way.” (v.9).
we must be confident of His love and mercy, always available
to us. It is not about our sin, but about the God who forgives
sin. “Remember your compassion and your mercy, O Lord,
for they are ages old.” (v.6). We must know that God
is mercy, and there is no sin He will not forgive. “For
the sake of your name, Lord, pardon my guilt, though it is
as we turn away from sin, we should seek to know His ways.
We grow not only out of sin but grow into a new life in God.
“Make known to me your ways, Lord; teach me your paths.”
(v.4). The path of the Lord is the path of holiness.
as God does show us the way, we must obey what He commands
us to do. In fact, we are to live out our covenant as Christians.
“All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth toward
those who honor his covenant and decrees.” (v.10). Mercy
and truth go together. There is a false mercy that accommodates
people in their sin. But true mercy leads us to sin no more.
knowing that apart from God’s mercy and grace we are
nothing, we should place our lives in His hands, and allow
Him to mold us. In Jesus alone is our salvation and liberation.
“Guide me by your fidelity and teach me, for you are
God my savior; for you I wait all the day long.” (v.5).
We must long to grow ever deeper in our life in Christ.
we must continue to be in awe of our great God and relate
to Him always in reverence and honor. We never take God for
granted. We always know our place. This assures that God can
and will continue to guide us along the right path. “Who
is the one who fears the Lord? God shows him the way he should
so with all the above we have the confidence to pray, “Remember
no more the sins of my youth; remember me according to your
mercy, because of your goodness, Lord.” (v.7).
