THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2018
Today’s reading: 1 Corinthians 3:9-17
Consider these amazing assertions of Paul about the people
we are God’s co-workers” (v.9a)
are God’s field” (v.9b).
are “God’s building.” (v.9c).
are the temple of God” (v.16a).
Spirit of God dwells in you” (v.16b).
Further, Paul says that “the temple of God, which you
are, is holy.” (v.17b). This is why we are called to
holiness, to be holy as God is holy. It is merely consistent
with being God’s temple. God cannot dwell in any place
that is not holy.
further, “no one can lay a foundation other than the
one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ.” (v.11). The
foundation of the building, the very core and strength of
the structure, is Jesus. We as a people are the temple of
God, founded on Jesus, indwelt by the Spirit.
God’s people, we are His co-workers. We do divine work,
to accomplish divine purposes. We are critically important
for God’s plan for the world. Thus God empowers us with
His Spirit. God sends us forth to do His will, and protects
us in the process, given the powerful enemies before us. He
warns them, “If anyone destroys God’s temple,
God will destroy that person” (v.17a).
is all out for His people. He has destined them for greatness.
