OUR THEME FOR 2018
DESTINED FOR GREATNESS - 3
Today’s reading: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9
As Paul greeted the Corinthians in his first letter, he already
speaks about their being destined for greatness. What are
some of the elements that constitute such greatness in Christ?
give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace
of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus” (v.4). The
fullness of grace in Jesus is available to us. We are to
be like him.
“that in him you were enriched in every way, with
all discourse and all knowledge” (v.5). We are provided
the fullness of everything needed to live our lives for
God and to help build His Kingdom on earth, renewing our
minds and hearts. The knowledge that comes from God is “knowledge
of the mysteries of the kingdom of God” (Lk 8:10),
which God reveals to His disciples.
“as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you”
(v.6). Paul’s testimony was comprised of the witness
of a holy life and persuasive preaching and teaching, that
made a great difference in the lives of people, helping
bring them to meet, live and share Christ. We too are to
do the same.
“so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift
as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
(v.7). God pours out gifts in abundance upon His people
in order that they might build His Kingdom, until Jesus
returns again. If we lack no spiritual gift, we have it
“He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable
on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (v.8). We are
to be righteous, holy, unblemished and perfect, by the grace
of God and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, persevering
till the end.
“God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship
with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (v.9). As God’s
children, we are destined to be in eternal fellowship with
Jesus, and God in His faithfulness will ensure this.
What do you call all that? It can only be considered greatness.
And it is all in relation to our life in Christ. Such is our
to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
