THE SERVANT GENERAL
THEME FOR 2019
AT THE CENTER OF THE MISSION
Today’s gospel: Mark 1:29-39
is at the center of our faith. He is our God, our Savior,
our King, our Lord and our Master. Our task is to proclaim
him so that all would come to faith in him. Everything that
is good, that is important to us, revolves around him. And
so it is with family and mission.
called on his first disciples to follow him, to the extent
of leaving their families. But that is not to abandon their
families, but rather, to bless them. And so Jesus went to
the house of Simon and Andrew, and healed Simon’s mother-in-law
(v.29-31). Jesus himself left his own family, in order to
minister to others. He looked to his larger family, those

their lives. He healed those who were sick and drove out demons
from those possessed (v.32-34).
Jesus came to preach the good news, the very purpose for which
he had come (v.38). He preached and drove out demons throughout
the whole of Galilee (v.39). This too is our mission. We are
to proclaim the gospel of salvation in Jesus, we are to bring
spiritual well-being to people, and we are to assault the
dominion of the evil one and help establish the Kingdom of
God in the world.

We are to be holy, so that we can be useful instruments for
the Kingdom. We are to be holy warriors. Then we can be families
