THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2019
FAMILIES ON MISSION – 3
January 26, 2019
Today’s gospel: Mark 3:20-21
We are families on mission. Just like our Lord Jesus.
After Jesus had done ministry, “he came
home.” (v.20a). His home was his base. This too is the
case with us. We are blessed with family. We always come home,
to be refreshed, before going on our next mission.
Even when at home, Jesus was absorbed in ministry.
“Again the crowd gathered, making it impossible for
them even to eat.” (v.20b). There was no dichotomy between
his home life and his mission. His priority was clear, even
as it meant having no time to eat. This is the way it should
be with us. We do not forget about mission when we are at
home. We are always concerned about our mission wherever we
are, even at home, as we pray for the mission, as we think
about the mission, as we build up our mission base, as we
teach our children about God’s work, as we open up our
homes to those we serve.
His attitude of prioritizing mission did not
go well with his relatives. “When his relatives heard
of this they set out to seize him, for they said, ‘He
is out of his mind.’” (v.21). This can be the
case with us. Some of our relatives cannot understand our
commitment to Christ and his mission. When we forgo food,
career or even time with the family, people may think we are
crazy. Our way is not the way of the world. Our priority is
not self nor even family, but always Christ. We are fools
Jesus has shown us the way. We are families on mission.
