THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2019
FAMILIES ON MISSION – 5
February 3, 2019
Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19
Psalm 71:1-6, 15-17
As baptized Catholics, we are called to be priests, kings
and prophets. Such is our destiny. This is much like the prophet
Jeremiah. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations
I appointed you.” (Jer 1:5). God’s intent from
all eternity is that we proclaim God’s word to the ends
of the earth.
the time we were conceived and born, we look to God. “You
are my hope, Lord; my trust, God, from my youth. On you I
have depended since birth; from my mother’s womb you
are my strength” (Ps 71:5-6a). If God is to use us for
His divine work, then He prepares us by forming us in our
home and family life.
as disciples of Jesus, we are to obey him. We are to speak
what God commands us to speak. God tells Jeremiah, “But
you, prepare yourself; stand up and tell them all that I command
you.” (Jer 1:17a). And what does God command us today?
It is to proclaim the gospel of salvation in Jesus. “My
mouth shall proclaim your just deeds, day after day your acts
of deliverance” (Ps 71:15a).
does all this make of us? We are to be families on mission.
We are formed in the family, so that God might send us forth
to do His mission. “God, you have taught me from my
youth; to this day I proclaim your wondrous deeds.”
