OUR THEME FOR 2019
(Part 30)

FAMILIES ON MISSION – 6

August 26, 2019

Family and mission go together. And these two are the most important dimensions of the Christian life.1 Families need to be renewed and strengthened, but they live not just for themselves. The members of the family are used by God to bring His light and life to the world. They do mission. In turn, doing mission brings many more families to God.

Family and mission have different orientations.

So we see that as we strive to be families on mission, we touch on all aspects and dimensions of God’s design for His people. In and out, we develop as authentic disciples of Jesus.

The enemy seeks to destroy the family, as the family is God’s design from the time of creation. And the family will be used by God to engage in spiritual war in the world. So the enemy wages war on the family, and wages war on those who oppose him. It is a double whammy. As families on mission, we are thick into the fight.

  1. There are other important works, such as work with the poor, pro-life advocacy, work for social justice, etc.
  2. Isaiah 11:2-3a. These are gifts for personal sanctification.
  3. 1 Corinthians 12:7-10. This is the primary list, but there are other lists of gifts in other Bible passages. These are gifts for service.
