OUR THEME FOR 2020
(Part 3)

FOUNDATION OF TRUTH

September 18, 2019

Today’s readings:
1 Timothy 3:14-16
Psalm 111:1-6
Luke 7:31-35

We must know who we are and what we are called to be. Our very first Core Value is Centered on Christ. As we center our lives on Christ, then we are building on Rock.

If we are built on the Rock that is Christ, then we become “the household of God, which is the church of the living God” (1 Tm 3:15b). If we are founded on the living stone that is Christ, then we become the living stones of his holy Church. “Come to him, a living stone, …. and, like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Pt 2:4-5). Wow. What a calling! A spiritual house, a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices!

Now the Church, which is the body of Christ on earth, is “the pillar and foundation of truth.” (I Tm 3:15c). Jesus himself is the way and the truth and the life. But today, even among many Christians, they are not living the truth. Catholics routinely claim to be devout while supporting abortion and LGBT. The truth is that abortion is murder of the innocent unborn, while LGBT is celebration of what is unnatural, intrinsically disordered, and even diabolical. We must know the truth, as it is what sets us free.

Unfortunately, within our Church, the truth is also being distorted. There are divisions within our Church, at the highest levels, between those in diametrically opposed theological and moral positions. “They are like children who sit in the marketplace,” with two groups proposing different types of entertainment to the other but both groups not agreeing to either proposal (Lk 7:32). There are those who fail in orthodoxy and have even fallen into heterodoxy and heresy, like God’s people then whoat one time criticized John the Baptist for not eating and drinking, but at another time, criticized Jesus for eating and drinking (Lk 7:33-34).

But there can only be one truth. Truth can only be founded on the Rock that is Christ. And we must know our faith. We need to study authentic Church teachings and study the Bible. “Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.” (Ps 111:2). The Bible is the word of God and it helps us be founded on the Word of God. Then “wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” (Lk 7:35).

Who then is this Christ? He is “the mystery of devotion” (1 Tm 3:16a). He is God who became man, borne witness to by the Holy Spirit, revealed to the angels, announced to the Gentiles, accepted in faith to the ends of the earth, ascended to great glory (1 Tm 3:16b).

As members of CFC-FFL and the authentic Church of God, “you should know how to behave in the household of God” (1 Tm 3:15a). Be built on Rock.
