THE SERVANT GENERAL
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Today’s psalm: Psalm 103:1-7
God is good! All the time! How has the Lord been truly good
He has won for us our salvation. It is He “Who redeems
your life from the pit” (v.4a). Jesus sacrificed his
very life for us, so that we might be brought out of the
darkness of our lives and the pit of Satan’s dominion,
and brought into God’s marvelous light and His kingdom.
has forgiven us our trespasses, even as we continue to sin
over and over again. It is He “Who pardons all your
is always merciful and compassionate, not counting our transgressions
against us but simply wanting us to experience the fullness
of His love. He “crowns you with mercy and compassion”
has poured out His bountiful gifts on us. So “do not
forget all his gifts” (v.2b). God gives us the gifts
of the Spirit, for our own personal spirituality and also
for enabling the body to do the work of worldwide evangelization.
has brought healing--physical, emotional, relational, spiritual.
He “heals all your ills” (v.3b).
He just fills us with all good things--our life, health,
provisions, family, service, etc. It is He “Who fills
your days with good things” (v.5a).
encourages and inspires us, and enables us to soar to heights
of spirituality and Christian service. As such, “your
youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (v.5b).
Well, that is more than enough reason to give God praise and
thanks. “Bless the Lord, my soul; all my being, bless
his holy name! Bless the Lord, my soul” (v.1-2a).
do we always just take for ourselves? Do we not rather also
give? Indeed, we need to give ourselves in service to God
and to the Church. The ultimate manifestation of our gratitude
for God’s goodness is our own turning of our lives to
Him, and our expending ourselves in His service, for His glory
and the building of His kingdom.
special focus of our service is our work with the poor. Like
God, we must have a preferential option for the poor. “The
Lord does righteous deeds, brings justice to all the oppressed.”
(v.6). We are called to holiness and righteousness, and we
help bring the righteousness of God into the world through
our work of massive evangelization. Given God’s love
for the poor, we are also to be God’s instruments for
justice to the poor.
